In order to raise the attractiveness of the northernmost German state as a film location, Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein lead-managed the creation of the Location Network Schöeswig-Holstein in cooperation with the tourism agency Tourismus-Agentur Schleswig-Holstein (TASH) and the five regional tourism marketing agencies in March 2009.
The ‘Land of Horizons’ between the North and the Baltic Seas has always been a popular shooting location for film and TV productions, with numerous different motifs to offer. The fusion of the film funding institutions of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein in the summer of 2007 brought with it a further increase in the total number of shooting days p.a.. Current productions such as Heinrich Breloer’s BUDDENBROOKS, which was shot in Lübeck, the Kiel-based episodes of the crime series TATORT and the ZDF series DER LANDARZT, realized in the Schlei region, do not only make use of northern locations, but also contribute to establishing Schleswig-Holstein as a diversified travel destination. The linking of film productions and tourism provides the basis for this initiative for the positive marketing of the northernmost federal state as a film location for national and international film and TV productions. The objective of the location network is to install competent contact people for film and TV productions and to build up a fully functioning network of film funding, tourism associations, authorities, institutions and the press, in order to provide for concrete contact points for production teams in search of locations as well as to allow for a sensitization of the local press during shooting and facilitate shooting conditions. The thus required information, service and marketing measures are to be put into practise by the cooperation of Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein and the major network partners on location. Besides Tourismus-Agentur Schleswig-Holstein (TASH) in Kiel, the five regional tourism marketing agencies are participating in the network: Nordsee-Tourismus GmbH, Ostsee-Holstein-Tourismus e.V., Herzogtum Lauenburg Marketing & Service GmbH, Schleswig-Holstein Binnenland Tourismus e.V. and Marketingkooperation Städte in Schleswig-Holstein e.V
